The outfits are clearly slowing him down, so we'll be buying lots of them, I think. (and knowing him, he'll just say fine, and then decide that walking is the way to go).

I just found 2 pictures on this computer that are worth posting. In this first one, Joe is doing his best Mommy impression.

The second is a study in opposites. Joe is small, and Serge Zwikker is big. (He tailgates at the same place we do for football games)

Today at aquamoms, Joe did great, kicking like crazy and even went under a few times. He was looking very serious, though. The other moms were cracking us up, saying that he looked like a little attorney, and narrating his thoughts: Did your mother put you under the water without your explicit permission? I can represent you.  Did everyone sign their liability waivers? Do your rights feel trampled when you wear a silly swimsuit?

6 month checkup

Joe was 27 inches tall, and weighed 15lb 12oz. He got lots of shots. He cried, but stopped as soon as Frank picked him up. The nurse put some bandaids on his legs, and we sat with him in the room for a few minutes. Once he noticed the bandaids, he tried to take them off. Then he tried to eat them. When we took away the bandaids, he cried harder than when he got the shots.

Apparently Joe is a carrier of the "don't stop moving until you are ready to sleep" gene of his parents. This boy wants to move! He has been rocking on all fours, and sometimes pushing up to a plank, before launching himself forward. From his belly, he then raises his head, arms and legs and flails them. Like a baby seal, according to one friend.

This flailing was called "froggy kicking" in the pool by our aquamoms instructor. We'll adopt that phrase and assume his innate swimming skills are being manifested. Our friends Sam & Holden are taking the class with their mommies, Lindsay & Michele, and we get a chance to catch up in the pool. This makes getting into a pool in Raleigh, in January, at 8:15am not such a bad thing.

We had a really nice Christmas, complete with SNOW! We took Joe for a walk, and he seemed intrigued, but not won over, so we brought a bowl of the stuff in for him to explore. I think he liked it, except for coldness.

He's working on moving from all-fours to sitting, which we need to capture because it is hilarious and fascinating to watch him figure out how his body works. Once he is sitting, he's really fun to engage with: shaking instruments, rolling balls, and blowing bubbles.

He blinks everytime someone else shakes a shaker.

We have dubbed him Mr. Curious. He hears keys in the door & stops what he's doing to look for daddy. If he's nursing and Frank is cooking dinner, he looks up at Every.Single.Noise. He loves going out into the world and checking everything out.

Christmas and Now a New Year!

Hello everyone and happy new year! It was busy time in December. We traveled all over to visit friends and family. Joe had his first Christmas and Walker is now a teenager after having his 13th birthday on the 30th! The new year came in with a bang but now things are getting back to business as usual. We took lots of photos, so take a look and enjoy!
